With the content of our platform, we focus on creatives of African origin in contemporary fashion and connect them with socially relevant topics. In doing so, we support BIPOC creatives to gain more visibility and open the dialogue between creative industries, culture, education and politics. We expand the Eurocentric perspective with new narratives and images and create access to a new fashion world through cultural appreciation. By using fashion as a vehicle, and celebrating identities.

Our founder

Beatrace Angut Lorika Oola founded the creative agency APYA Productions in 2012 and launched the pioneering platform Africa Fashion Day Berlin (AFDB) in January 2013. AFDB was relaunched in 2016 under the name Fashion Africa Now – from one idea, a visual business card for designers of African origin was created. Her passion for contemporary fashion, the difficult access for BIPOC to the international fashion industry as well as the lack of coverage and the need for self-determined visualisation of the African fashion movement, which is pushing into new creative areas, prompted her to found this platform. The platform permanently creates space for Afrocentric/Afrodiasporic artistic perspectives within the network and develops its own formats that bring new publics together.
