ETHETICS IS A VIDEO SERIES EXPLORING AND CELEBRATING ETHICAL AND SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE BRANDS AROUND THE WORLD, dedicated to the telling of alluring stories that provoke the eco-conscious and the eco-curious.

EPISODE #1 AKJP (ADRIAAN KUITERS + JODY PAULSEN) IS A MENSWEAR AND WOMENSWEAR BRAND FOUNDED BY SOUTH AFRICAN DESIGNER DUO, KEITH HENNING AND JODY PAULSEN.

In the first episode of Ethetics, Keith Henning gives a tour of AKJP Collective, a boutique which showcases designs from a range of talented South African makers, including Episode 2 designers Lukhanyo Mdingi and Nicholas Coutts. At his studio, he introduces some of his team and shares with Ethetics the AKJP AW16 menswear collection, inspired by artist Georgina Gratrix’s art and impasto brushwork. After a trip to the Woodheads leather supplier, Ethetics end up at the SvenMill factory, where AKPJ’s jacquard is made. Ethetics had the incredible opportunity to show some of the standouts of the collection in the environment in which they were made, on model Martin Gareth Magner.

AKJP has been recognized as one of South Africa’s most innovative brands, bringing contemporary and cool to the South African fashion landscape. In 2015 AKJP was one of the finalists at Vogue Italia’s Who Is On Next? Dubai. With the Ethical Fashion Initiative, AKJP participated in Pik Uomo 89 for the Generation Africa show. Their ethical mission revolves around creating a strong community of local designers to build a collective that can compete in a global market, as well as offer quality local choices to their customers. They also employ local seamstresses and pattern cutters, in some cases enabling them to work in an environment that is more accessible to their clients, enabling them to grow their businesses and enjoy a more sustainable lifestyle.
