Connecting Afro Futures. Fashion x Hair x Design – the exhibition at the Kunstgewerbemuseum – Berlin’s Museum of Decorative Arts from 24th August – 1st December 2019 is not the only outcome of the multistage project that started with a week-long collaborative workshop in Berlin in November 2018 and included two project stations in Dakar and Kampala.

A magalog – a fashion magazine and exhibition catalog in one – also titled Connecting Afro Futures. Fashion x Hair x Design was published with Kerber Verlag in time for the exhibition opening.

In addition to fashion editorials and visual stories, the magalog contains essays, statements and interviews on and around afro futures and fashion, hair and design in African and diasporic contexts. The publication was edited and produced by the exhibition’s curators: Claudia Banz – Kunstgewerbemuseum, Cornelia Lund – fluctuating images and Beatrace Angut Oola – Fashion Africa Now.

The magalog expands on topics explored in the project and presented in the exhibition, with contributions from Jaquee, Sunny Dolat & Njoki Ngumi, Noliwe Rooks, Marite Tshani, Cheikha Sigil, Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo, Jacqueline Shaw, Lamula Anderson of Lamula Nassuna, BULL DOFF, Meschac Gaba & Simon Njami, José Hendo, NJOLA Impressions & Helena Allen, Adama Paris, Ken Aïcha Sy, TONDO Clothing, Mazzi Odu, Tapiwa Matsinde, Natasha A.
