Preparation for the exhibition Connecting Afro Futures. Fashion x Hair x Design – which ran at Berlin’s Museum of Decorative Arts from 24th August to 1st December this year – involved two project stations in Dakar and Kampala. The curators – Beatrace Angut Oola (Fashion Africa Now), Cornelia Lund (fluctuating images) and Claudia Banz (Kunstgewerbemuseum) – visited the designers and artists on their home turf and initial works from the project were shown and discussed. We also (re-)connected with others from the fashion and creative scene in Kampala. Of course, we also used the opportunity to shoot a fashion editorial for exhibition’s Magalog – a fashion magazine and exhibition catalog combined. In this post Beatrace Angut Oola reflects on the trip and we take a look behind the scenes of the photoshoot.

The exhibition Connecting Afro Futures. Fashion x Hair x Design took place at three different locations. Kampala is called a young fashion hub and vibrant, booming entrepreneur hotspot. The young creative scene is very dynamic and stylish. The scene takes place mainly in Kampala. Institutions like 32 degree Ugandan Art Trust or the Goethe Center promote the potential and enable an exchange between the creative people. We realized our photo shoot #TheTimeIsNow near the industrial area. Thanks to the support of Joram Model Management we were able to find outstanding characters for our photo shoot. It was a pleasure to work with our photographer PAPASHOTIT again.
